I start with the learners and the evidence: what clinicians do today, where they get stuck, which gaps reach the patient, and what the literature supports.

I decide which programmes to build, for whom, and in which format: live, blended or digital. Then I plan the faculty, the partners, the budget and how we will measure success.
Where I have taught03
I write the outline, check each claim against the literature, and build the slides, illustrations, videos and tools with the team. AI speeds up the drafts. The clinical judgement stays with me.

My bone regeneration ebook started in 2017 as a static iBook, written with Francisco Carroquino. Between 2016 and 2019, more than 11,000 colleagues signed up to download it. In 2026 I rebuilt the material as an interactive course: 13 chapters, surgical videos, knowledge checks and completion tracking.

Before I use an AI model in teaching, I test it. I publish open benchmarks of how language and vision models answer dental questions and read dental images, with the methods and the misses.

I am a dentist based in Basel. I qualified at Alfonso X el Sabio University in Madrid in 2004, did my postgraduate training in implantology in Santiago de Compostela and Barcelona, and later an MBA at ESADE.
I have worked on both sides of dental education. In clinics and universities, and in industry at Phibo and Straumann, where I led education teams and the DSO Academy. Today I lead the Foundation for Oral Rehabilitation and keep building Periospot. At the Universidad Europea Miguel de Cervantes (UEMC) I teach in postgraduate implant dentistry, co-direct a master's programme in digital implantology run with ESIRO, and belong to the DENS-ia research group.

I start from the gap between what the evidence supports and what clinicians do in practice. Then I weigh how many patients it affects, the cost, and who can teach it well, and I choose the format that fits the learner: live, blended or digital.
Less than before. Most of my clinical time today goes to teaching and to humanitarian treatment for patients in need.
